Sleep Hypnosis

Many people tend to associate Hypnosis with sleep for two reasons. Firstly the very dramatic stage hypnotists who use the word in their stage shows and make it look as if their subjects are fast asleep on stage. Secondly because the word hypnosis is derived from the Greek word Hypnos which means sleep. The reality is in fact very different as hypnosis is actually a concentrated and focused state of relaxation very much like the day dream state. That doesn't however mean that it doesn't have its uses when it comes to helping people to sleep. Sleep hypnosis in fact is excellent at helping the brain to switch off and get a decent nights sleep.

So how exactly does sleep hypnosis work? Well there are a number of ways that a trained hypnotherapist will work with you to resolve your sleep problem. Firstly before any work begins the therapist will take an assessment to find out a little more about your lifestyle before any work begins. This gives the hypnotherapist at little more understanding of what could be preventing you from sleeping at night. Issues such as stress and anxiety or depression for example all contribute to sleepless nights or broken sleep. Fears such as a fear of the dark may also create problems for some people. Medication can disrupt the sleep pattern, as can pain or stimulants such as too much caffeine. Once this assessment is taken the hypnotherapist will then recommend some sleep hygiene rules so that they can begin the process of regulating your sleeping once again.

Cure Insomnia with Hypnosis

Lifestyle factors in fact play a huge part in sleeping problems. Are you guilty of working on your computer late at night or playing on an Ipad or phone? All of these things will cause the brain to be stimulated when it is supposed to be resting and preparing for sleep. Do not be shocked if your therapist suggests that you turn off these electronic devices a few hours before bed time to allow you mind to prepare for sleep. Of course although lifestyle issues may play a part in your insomnia they don't explain every case and this is where sleep hypnosis comes in. As hypnotherapy for sleep is a deep state of relaxation it is teaching your mind to slow down and it helps to halt the internal chatter inside your mind. We have all had a night when thoughts seem to whirl around again and again in our minds. Hypnosis helps your subconscious to focus on relaxing rather than thinking through the events of the day.

Generally when clients come to see us at Balance Hypnosis we start our first session by assessing the problems you are having with sleeping and suggesting changes to your routine. We will then commence a session of suggestion hypnosis to train your mind into relaxing rather than working. To add to the impact of the session we even send you away with a sleep hypnosis audio for you to listen to over a period of one to two weeks. The audio is to be listened to before you go to bed and helps to calm down any internal chatter. Your second appointment will assess whether this had made a difference to your sleeping patterns. If there are still problems then the audio will have prepared you to go into a deeper state of hypnosis during your second session. This session will then allow us to see if there is anything bothering you at the back of your mind that might be preventing you from getting a good nights sleep. Once we are aware of the root cause then we can work with you to alter your perception of that worry or problem so you get a good nights rest.
